To create the ActiveX DLL, open Visual Basic and create a new ActiveX DLL project. When you first open Visual Basic, you will see the New Project dialog box. Double-click the ActiveX DLL icon. |

If you don't immediately see the New Project dialog box, choose File | New Project from the menu. Double-click the ActiveX DLL icon. |

Notice the Project Browser to the right of the Visual Basic development environment. Modify the properties of Project1 to more meaningfully reflect your project. Using your mouse, right-click Project1 and choose Properties. Figure 6.2 shows the Project Properties dialog box that displays. |

The Project Type (under the General index tab) is ActiveX DLL, so you need not modify this list box. The Startup Object should be Sub Main, so choose this option from the list box. For the Project Name, enter Check Deposit. For the Project Description, enter Checking Account Deposit Manager. Leave every other option as is. |

Click the Make index tab (see Figure 6.3). The information in this container is very valuable for version management and protection of copyrights, if you plan to sell your component commercially. If you want your component's version to be automatically incremented every time you modify it, click the Auto Increment check box in the Version Number frame. If you have one or more icons associated with your component, use the Icon list box to select it. Finally, use the Type list box in the Version Information frame to enter information about the component and its physical file. When you select an item in this list box, use the Value text box to enter any relevant information. For example, if you select the Company Name item, enter the name of your company in Value. For any component development, especially commercial projects, it is highly advisable that you enter at least Company Name, File Description, Legal Copyright, Legal Trademarks, and |
